Our efforts to promote Nyota beans align with broader initiatives such as the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) program, which aims to enhance agricultural productivity and food security across Africa.

Developed by the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) and promoted by HarvestPlus, Nyota beans are biofortified with iron and zinc, essential nutrients that address anemia and boost immune function. Unlike other fortified foods, Nyota beans are readily available and cost no more to grow than traditional varieties. Their rapid adoption and widespread cultivation highlight their potential to improve nutrition and health outcomes across Kenya. With over 50,000 metric tons produced within four years of its release, Nyota beans are a shining star in the bean market, favored for their high yield, short maturity, and drought tolerance.

Our efforts to promote Nyota beans align with broader initiatives such as the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) program, which aims to enhance agricultural productivity and food security across Africa. TAAT’s High Iron Beans Compact, supported by the African Development Bank, focuses on scaling up the production and consumption of nutrient-rich beans. This collaborative effort between public and private sectors, including KALRO and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), ensures that the benefits of biofortified beans reach millions of consumers. As we continue to expand our reach and impact, we remain dedicated to providing healthy, nutritious foods that contribute to the well-being of our communities.
